American TV

The best of American TV is utterly spectacular. The scripts are polished. The effects spectacular and the plot-twists are breathtaking. My five favourites of recent times:

  1. The Sopranos
  2. 24
  3. Curb Your Enthusiasm
  4. The West Wing
  5. Alias

Its always been pointed out that we get the best stuff - but it is rather good.

Friends
Its odd to hear the jokes of middle aged Jews spouting from perfect American Youth. But the writing is just so sharp. A classic “shows about nothing”, but with characters who are as specific as they are shallow.

South Park
For some reason this show can insult absolutely everyone and everything because its a cartoon. Between the utterly wondeful juvenilia are some brilliant parodies. Screw you guys, I’m going home.

West Wing
I have never intended to watch this. But I have never ever turned this off after noticing it was on.

Alias
The hokum actually competes head on with the realism in this schizophrenic mix of faction and kick ass. And I find Jack Bristow as compelling as any character on a comparable show.
