It’s nearly midnight. I called the burglary in at 9p.m. and the police haven’t arrived, so I can’t begin the tidying that I need to do to make the place look less defiled.
Gradually, I realise that more has been taken than I feared.
- My digital camera, with some beautiful pictures of my beautiful daughters in there that I hadn’t saved. Some of the best pictures of them ever actually. That’s gone.
- Digital camcorder. Gone. Along with footage.
- Older Hi-8 camcorder, gone.
- My beautifil Nikon SLR camera with extra zoom lens and films, gone.
- And worst of all, my Dunhill watch which regulars will know the meaning of. Apart from it being £1500, the sentimental value was way, way higher.
I hate thieves.
It’s late, the police aren’t going to come. They’ll be here tomorrow I guess.

I am so sorry Shahid. If they’ve caught the burglar, do you think you’ll get some of your stuff back? Like the digital camera and your dunhill watch?
I hope and pray so.

Shit man, that’s really rubbish. Hope your daughters are OK.

You have an unhealthy interest in material things. Does a Dunhill watch tell the time better ?
I have a theory, you get a Pizza delivered quicker than the Police - so why don’t the Police recruit Pizza delivery guys ?
After all, they kill less members of the public in high speed car chases.
Anyway you still have your PC - the working one.

Blogger hasn’t worked for me for 2 days now. It’s hugely frustrating.
Postman - I used to have an unhealthy interest in material things - and you should know that I have never spent more than £40 on a watch in all my life.
I lost a lot more than I thought, but have not been able to post about it.

What’s even more rubbish is that your Google Adsense banner is advertising camcorders and Dunhill watches… I guess that in this case an ‘Ad’ means adding insult to injury.

I actually think that’s quite funny.
Seriously, I’m not materialistic anymore. I used to be very much so. With the watch for example, there’s a story to that. I won it in a competition, so it’s not like I lost money. But I won it at a time I was seriously, seriously broke. I thought long and hard about selling it. And in the end, through the persuasion of a dear friend. I didn’t. It was a symbol of my new attitude. That’s why that one hurts.
As for the other items, it’s the loss of information that hurts and even then, more that it’s in the hands of someone who will never appreciate it, or might abuse it.
Finally, it’s the idea that anyone can walk into your home and there’s nothing you can do.
I’ve been robbed and mugged before, but this is the first time I’ve been burgled at home. It could have been a lot, lot worse!
