The EU steps in with a basic aid package to help the embryonic government in Palestine because everyone else is calling Hamas a terrorist government. Democratically elected, not that this matters anymore.
If the legitimately elected Palestinian government is terrorist, then what does that make Israel? Do these people forget how Israel came about?
One useful benefit of washing the nostrils out with water as part of the ablutions in preparation for a Muslim’s prayers is the temporary respite from the overwhelming stench of hypocrisy that permeates modern Western politics.
It’s ok to fund Israel to the tune of billions of dollars so that they can terrorise their neighbours, it’s alright to fund brutal regimes all around the world (including at one time, that of Saddam Hussein’s Iraq) and it’s alright to bomb the shit out of civilians and call it freedom - but the second true democracy rears its head, like in Venezuela, or certain central American republics through the Reagan era, the ones that were crushed with obscene brutality, or Palestine - the bullshit machine swings into action.

Do I recommend Apple? Wholeheartedly. Without a second’s hesitation. PCs are an unholy mess. Clunky, buggy, virus-prone and requiring regular rebuilds. Mac is awesome. My laptop is 3 years old and still kicks arse.
Adam - Yes I did watch it. What amazed me is that there are still so many people who didn’t have a clue what was going on, but channel 4 opened their eyes a year or more after the bloggers were writing about it. Maybe there’s still hope. Britain still leads the way in my opinion.

Democracy isn’t all it’s cracked up to be at times (although I quite like it) and we should spend less effort blowing hard about ‘freedom’, ‘democracy’ and ‘choice’ and recognise that we in the west are actually looking for peace of mind, free trade and a generally benign world that doesn’t rock the boat too much (nothing wrong that, in my opinion). We really shouldn’t be that interested in freedom and democracy for others (especially for those who don’t much want it). I mean, it’s very, very nice if they can get it (and I for one am genuinely saddened by oppression, torture and murder of ordinary people) but other people do occasionally come up with satisfactory alternatives to universal sufferage and self-interest rules the day for everybody - even the oppressed, and even when the oppressed are no longer oppressed.
Only the insane don’t - one way or another - put self-interest first.
Only posers pretend otherwise. We in the west pose too much.

i wanted to email you, but couldn’t find your address anywhere on your site. anyway, just wanted to say, i’ve been reading your blog, and what you write about your daughters makes my heart ache, because i am not married, and finding it difficult to even get to a state where i can get married. (i don’t have all those prequisites , like a house, job and others)
even though, it sounds like you are suffering because of your ex, it also feels like you are experiencing a lot of joy at having great kids, and that’s something i long for.
so basically, be thankful for what you have, and don’t regret what you’ve lost.

You should also know that the Israelis don’t treat Christian Palestinians any better than Muslim Palestinians.
