As Good As It Gets

by shahid on February 19, 2009

Apologies for the hiatus, it has been an incredibly busy time.

My on-line activity has been centred around Twitter as you probably know, and my blogging activity has decreased as a result.

I am dabbling in programming again. It is very exciting.

I have had several very good days, boosted by the presence of my family, my wife and children filling my home and my heart with life and laughter and joy, my friends a constant support and frankly, this is as good as it gets.

Islam has been a torch for me. Whenever I have felt some darkness, the Qur’an speaks to me and the examle of the Prophet (saw) and his companions (ra) inspire me. The difficult moments become opportunities to forge my character and I have resolved to become better.

My diabetic control has improved, but the proof of the (sugar, fat and flour-free) pudding is in the hba1c.

If I get tickets, I’m going to see “Seven Jewish Children” to see what the fuss is about. Mad Mel Phillips has called it a blood-libel against all Jews, but she thinks Palestinian children being burned alive with White Phosphorous is anti-Semitic. Nobody buys this bullshit anymore. Gaza taught me the virtue of patience. Wallah I feel the pain of their suffering, but to be helpless is useless. I am not helpless. There are things we can all do and we must me steadfast and patient. Although it is the ummah that is attacked, this is about human justice and I salute my brothers and sisters in humanity who are sharing the burden of resistance.

So I have grown (again) and I have improved and I am alhamdulillahi rabilalameen, happy.

To my family and my friends, old and new, you rock!

Hi Shahid

It was lovely to read this – so glad you and your family are happy.

Did you get to see the play? Caryl Churchill has had to defend herself against the tired old accusations of anti-Semitism. In a letter published in today’s Indy she wrote:

“Howard Jacobson writes as if there’s something new about describing critics of Israel as anti-Semitic. But it’s the usual tactic. We are not going to agree about politics … But we should be able to disagree without accusations of anti-Semitism.”

.. and so say all of us!
