A recent video shows Obama apparently bowing to Saud’s King Abdullah. I tried to comment on one of the more popular videos, but without much success.
There has been some quite ludicrous commentary on this. Obama is not diminished by this act and neither is the United States of America. (In any case, it would be impossible for the world’s view of the USA to be much lower than it already is.) Further, Obama bowing to the Saudi king (hardly a great figurehead for most Muslims) is not Islamic.
The Islamic position is very simple. Muslims bow to God alone. We do not bow to any human. If Obama were a practising Muslim, it’s unlikely he’d bow. A simple nod of the head would have been sufficient.
This bow means nothing to Muslims, but everything to the quite vile racists in America. Some of the comments on the above video are so disgustingly abusive – I wonder how long the video would have remained on ADL’s YouTube had the racist comments been made about Jews?
I suspect a fuss is being made because the king he’s bowing to is an Arab and a Muslim. No American would have said anything had he bowed to the Queen.

I suspect the Irish community may have said something had he bowed to the Queen.
I can’t remember how Presidents usually greet foriegn royalty. I guess “Yo Nigga, waz up!” is not correct in the above case.
As a Muslim, even I wont bow to this self-imposed king. He is widely-hatred figure in the world…maybe at par with Israel’s Sharon
YouTube comments aren’t worth reading no matter what the video
Oh come on Suspect Paki, playing the race card is pushing it a bit here, even for you. The reason why Americas were angry that Obama bowed was because they dissaprove of the way his country is ruled. Hypocritical though that may be (considering America has helped him keep that position), the issue is not race, although I’m sure you wish it were because it would give you something to write about. And you should know better than to back your argument up by looking at the YouTube comments pages! (By the way there are ‘disgustingly abusive’ comments about everyone on YouTube, including the Jews, in case you hadn’t noticed).
If you you don’t want to bow, don’t meet royalty – it’s that simple!
There is nobody more anti-authority than me, but if I had an audience with the Queen, I, like most people, would bow-my-ass-off…….
I like Obama – he seems to have the common touch (as we say in the UK).
Currently, he is probably the most powerful man in the world, but has respect enough to bow to royalty – whats the big deal?
Hello,
I see you are a Beatles and Monty Python fan, So am I. I love my wife and my childern as well. I’m not a fan of religion though. Anyway, Peace to the peacemakers.
Bow to royalty, kiss the ring that the Pope wears, wear a yarmulke when you go in a synagogue – just traditions that it is easier to follow than to try and fight. If you follow the tradition, the local people find it normal, if you don’t follow local customs then you are offensive to the local population.
